Presentational graphics
Creative graphic design helps bring business topics such as economics, finance, energy and property to life. In my role on the Business production team, I:
Work with editors and journalists to research data and find the best ways to illustrate a story
Write briefs for graphic designers, including a creative concept, and work with the team to ensure content supports goals and meets deadlines
Proofread designs before print and get editor sign-off
Transport for London
Upfront – COVID-19 response
TfL employees went above and beyond to keep key workers moving in the capital in the height of the pandemic. It was vital to help colleagues stay connected. During lockdown, I:
edited two print magazines in April offering advice on remote working and staying well
edited digital magazines in May and June focusing on safety and London’s restart and recovery
wrote features for TfL’s On The Move magazine for London Underground employees, focusing on safety and recovery.
Transport for London
Upfront – regular publication
I worked with TfL’s employee engagement team for just over a year, predominantly editing Upfront, a digital magazine for 3,000 employees of the ‘Surface’ network – this includes Buses, Santander Cycles and Overground. Stories covered transport innovation, diversity and inclusion and mental health. Creative copy also adhered to strict brand guidelines and business objectives. I also pitched and helped produce GIFs, videos and data visualisations, which increased engagement and click rate. To see full PDFs, please get in touch.
KPMG
Customer Insights
I helped deliver a series of blog posts for the accounting firm’s Customer Insights series. This involved analysing customer surveys, researching relevant case studies and statistics, and producing expert-level guides on achieving growth in a fast-moving consumer world. Network Rail
Spotlight
Spotlight is a magazine for Network Rail’s station retailers. I visited Bristol Temple Meads station ahead of its 180th birthday where I interviewed owners of a thriving bakery, a Big Issue seller-turned-WH Smith employee and the station’s dedicated manager to produce a rich and vibrant feature reflecting this corner of the city and the benefits of railway station retail.
Hitachi Rail
Fusion
Fusion is Hitachi Rail’s magazine for its employees in the UK, Italy and Japan. The ‘Forward Thinking’ feature involved speaking to colleagues in three countries about their factories’ digitilisation journey. It demonstrates my ability to distil complex processes and technical language to create a powerful narrative that demonstrates the benefits of digitilisation and mitigates any fears of a tech takeover.
